And what makes Mars Science Laboratory even more of a crucial mission for scientists is the fact that it will be the last rover to explore the surface of Mars until 2018 - partly because funding the mission has been so extraordinarily expensive.
Good. Funding’s been cut. At last, some sensible news. Why on earth (no pun) is so much money being spent trying to deduce whether there’s been life on Mars? Couldn’t that money be put to good use, y’know, here on earth where there is life?
Also, count the number of times the words “could”, “believe”, “may”, “hope”, etc in the article. Words that reveal the big picture; the scientists have no real clue what’s happening on Mars right now, never mind billions of years ago. They’re just giving it their best guess.
Here’s my tip. If you make a call and get a recorded message with a new number to dial, just punch the new number into the keypad then take a screen shot. You’ll be able to end the call and you won’t have lost the new number.
Everything is different today, and it’s much more confusing. For one thing, there are no real deadlines anymore, because stories are constantly being updated for the Web. All stories are due now, and most of the constipated people are gone, replaced by multiplatform idea triage specialists. In this hectic environment, mistakes are more likely to be made, meaning that a story might identify Uzbekistan as “a subspecies of goat.” Fortunately, this new system enjoys the services of tens of thousands of fact-checking “citizen journalists” who write “comments.” They will read the Uzbekistan story and instantly alert everyone that BARACK OBAMA IS A LIEING PIECE OF CRAP.
Parents-to-be should not be allowed to record ultrasounds on mobile phones or video cameras, pregnancy scans experts say. The Society and College of Radiographers says there are an increasing number of reports of patients trying to make recordings. But it warns sonographers could be distracted, and miss vital signs of problems in the developing baby.
As a parent who’s received devastating news (link contains upsetting images) at such an ultrasound, I happen to agree that it’s best to 1) let the sonographer do their job in peace and without distraction and 2) put the mobile phone/video camera away. Wait until you’ve been given the all-clear/thumbs-up and then either buy the hospital’s video or photograph.
