Hanging out in front of school:High School. NYC. The usual crew. 10th grade I think. This is also when I started listening to grunge music - Pearl Jam, Nirvana, Sound Garden, Stone Temple Pilots. None of my friends were listening to that kind of music at the time. Nobody really turned me on to it. Just gravitated toward the sound… wore those headphones a lot. Lots of personal life shifts happened during this time. I was 15/16.
Love this, Zadi! It’s like Fame High. Probably about the farthest thing away from any high school backdrop I could dig up from my formative years. But I’m going to. In fact, I’d like to welcome the rest of you to do the same. Let’s compare histories!
What’s fascinating about this photo is that none of the people in it knew anything about Facebook, Twitter or digital cameras. Why do I feel a burst of nostalgia for such times?
Last week I was once again working with the Sustainable Scotland Network, capturing audio interviews for their annual podcast. This year they wanted to experiment with video a little, so I produced this for them.
…sitting on the sofa watching Strictly, it would seem.
“Twitter is great for while I’m watching something like Strictly or Big Brother. It’s like watching with your friends on the sofa. To go out you’d need a babysitter, or your husband to come back from work.”
The other day in the Toolstop office we had a discussion about our favourite bands.
All day long we listen to XFM which plays some great tunes and these are the bands we decided were our favourites:
- Mumford & Sons
- The Cribs (Neil’s favourite band……..ever)
- Kasabian
- The Enemy
- White Lies
- Manic Street Preachers
- Muse
- Radiohead
- Elbow
This got us thinking about songs that include tools in the title, so here’s what we came up with……
I Saw Her Standing There – The Beatles
Sledgehammer – Peter Gabriel
Hammer to Fall – Queen
Cordless Whisper – George Michael
Leaving on a Jet Planer – John Denver
Makita – Elton John
Love Can’t Breaker Us Apart – Joy Division
Chainsaw – Daniel Merriweather
Jigsaw Falling Into Place – Radiohead
Monkey Wrench – Foo Fighters
Grinder – Judas Priest
Let’s have your suggestions, puns are totally acceptable!
Look out for our top 10 Movies with Tools in their titles coming soon…..feel free to contribute via the comments box.
Genesis 1-2 (especially 1:26) reveals that humanity was made under God and over the rest of creation. Error occurs regarding imago Dei when this biblical tension is not maintained. Generally speaking, nearly every error in anthropology puts us up to be divine like God, or pushes us down to be animals like the rest of creation.
The former is common when human sinfulness is overlooked and/or there is an erroneous belief that we are somehow part of the divine. This is common in pantheism and panentheism.
The latter is common when humans are seen as little more than highly evolved or educable animals, incapable of denying their depraved instincts or living above their base and sinful desires. This is really a simple way of excusing and promoting selfishness, evil, and injustice with an evolutionary defense.
Another day and another social media strategy to develop, this time for Sean Walls Eye Care Centre.
Many of those targeted by the police have committed no crime and are guilty only of non-violent direct action. So it is worth reminding ourselves that protest is legal. Sorry if this sounds obvious, but you might have gained the impression that if three police units are spying on and targeting thousands, then those people must be up to something illegal.
Yes, that’s Vimeo. Yes, I’m watching a video. Yes, I’m alright with that as you’ll notice my white MacBook is working, so…
